'Pillars of National Unity' set up in Tian'anmen Square

"Pillars of National Unity" are seen in the east of the Tian'anmen Square, Beijing, September 14, 2009. A total of 56 pillars, representing China's 56 ethnic groups, were set up in Tian'anmen Square for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, each with a height of about 13 meters and a weight of 26 tons. Images of every ethnic group in their unique festival costumes are engraved in the pillars to stand for the unity of the nation. [Xinhua]
