Newspaper reporting is, traditionally, about cutting to the chase.
Let me stick to tradition; and first, thank all our readers, especially those who have been unstinting in their support and liberal with their criticism. We welcome, as we have always done, your suggestions and criticism, for no newspaper can exist in an ivory tower.

Zhu Ling, editor-in-chief of China Daily |
I want to thank all who have helped us grow.
I want to thank the advertisers for their support.
And last, but certainly not the least, all my colleagues, past and present.
On a personal note, I feel particularly proud, for I started as a young reporter with China Daily in the early 1980s, soon after the launch.
Since then, the paper's mission has been clear: to present and explain China to English-language readers.
Design was blessed with fortuity when the birth of China Daily coincided with the launch of the country's economic reforms and opening up to the world.
Clearly, there was no lack of material to write about or report on.
In the process, we have made China much more accessible to the rest of the world: facts and foibles, warts and all. In particular, we take pride in presenting a balanced view of national and international news.
In the past one-and-half years, we revamped several pages such as the front and opinion pages to make them more lively; and sections such as Business Weekly and Beijing Weekend.
But there is room for more. We promise not to be complacent or rest on our laurels.
For a start, the beginning of next year will see a redesigned and revamped China Daily with a vastly expanded coverage of news, opinion and features presented in a more reader-friendly format.
And the year after, as we head into the Beijing Olympic Games, we will have much more.
Our website, www.chinadaily.com.cn, will become a multi-media news, information and service provider to keep pace with technological advances and satisfy the varied needs of our readers and advertisers.
The past 25 years have been exiciting - as will the next 25.
