China Daily releases major update to iPhone app

China Daily released on Monday a major update app for iPhone to add more news, pictures and video, and faster, smarter navigation tools to help users read what they want, when they want, wherever they are.

The China Daily Version 2.0 application was developed to address the needs of “on the go” users who want a more efficient way to find and share essential news and information about China and the world. Version 2.0 builds on the existing application to deliver a more comprehensive service that still is available as a free download at the Apple App Store.

The China Daily app for Apple’s iPhone already has enjoyed dramatic growth since its 2009 launch, with users now accounting for nearly 70 percent of total Apple app installs of China Daily.

Advanced designs and technology have allowed China Daily to now offer an updated app with new or upgraded features, and an easier way to personalize the mobile news reading experience. New features include:

 Expanded content: Videos and slide shows are now available as stand-alone sections (Video, Photos). Users now have 10 sections of news to choose from, with links inside articles that enable readers to find additional content.

 Customized reading experience: Users can now personalize their mobile news reading experience by customizing regions or sections they want to see first.

 Improved sharing tools: Version 2.0 allows users to share articles, pictures and videos via Facebook, Twitter and e-mail.

 Content viewing in offline mode: Don’t have time to read or view content now? Save it for later to read offline at your convenience.

 Search for stories by key words

 Enhanced full-screen browsing behavior

 Adjustable fonts

 Better navigation: Users can now better browse between articles and photos to enjoy a multimedia news experience. Navigation tips help users move more easily between stories, pictures and videos.

 For iPhone 4: HD photo browsing and rotate photo navigation.
