Norway's sailing queen aims for Beijing Olympics(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-02-28 11:32
Olympic winner Siren Sundby, Norway's sailing queen, has made up her mind and decided to skipper Norway's Yngling in the Beijing Olympics in 2008, said reports reaching here from Oslo on Tuesday. Sundby has long been undecided on whether or not to participate in a new championship. She retired to concentrate on her studies after she won the gold medal in the Athens Olympics in 2004 in her single-handed dinghy, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported. The same year she was also presented with the prestigious " Sailor of the Year" award by the International Sailing Association. In Beijng, Sundby will be skipper of a Norwegian-designed Yngling, with Lise Birgitte Fredriksen and Alexandra Kofoed as crew, according to NRK. The Yngling is a small racing keelboat, a cross between a planing dinghy and a keelboat. Over 4,000 boats are sailing worldwide.
