The 329 volunteers have worked as translators, telephone operators, lecturers on the Green Olympics," technicians, general assistants, file administrators and collectors of information on the infringement of Olympics-related intellectual property rights.

Most of the volunteers come from Beijing's 40-plus universities; the rest are professionals from city communities and commercial companies. Some of them are even overseas Chinese. Most are under 25, the rest being middle-aged or even older. The most senior volunteer is 78 years old.

At a meeting to review the volunteer work on Sunday, vice- director of BOCOG Volunteer Department Zhang Zhenliang announced that the top ten volunteers would be given due praise.

Xu Ping, one of them, translated a huge amount of documents and took part in the preparation of several important BOCOG meetings during her 800-hour voluntary services at BOCOG International Relations Department since September 2006.

Performing over 1700 hours of voluntary service since April 2006, Wang Lei, a student of Beijing Normal University, worked on the design of model rooms and the service standards of the Media Village for the Beijing Olympic Games. She also drew up the operation plan for the Media Village on her own.

In their speeches, both Zhang Zhiwei, deputy BOCOG secretary-general and Liu Jian, director of the volunteer department and head of the Youth League in Beijing, fully recognized the pre-Games volunteers' contributions and urged the whole community to draw inspiration from their selfless dedication.
