Olympic soccer teams descend on HK

A Hong Kong select will take on the Olympic soccer teams of China, Australia and Jamaica in the Lunar New Year Cup next month.

The competition will be played on the first and fourth days of the Lunar New Year holidays (February 18 and 21) at the Hong Kong Stadium on a knockout basis, the Asian Football Confederation announced on its Web site on Tuesday.

Australia, who reached the last eight of the Athens Olympics in 2004, will train in Hong Kong from February 8-13 before playing Taiwan in an preliminary Olympic qualifier on February 14.

The first leg takes place on February 7.

The winner of Australia-Taiwan will play in the main round of qualifying in Group D with Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan/Kyrgyzstan, the AFC said.
