Kidnappers shot dead Iraq's chief Olympic bicycling coach Mahoud Ahmed Fulayih, said Hussein al-Amidi, the acting secretary general of the Olympic committee, on Thursday.

The body of 48-year-old Fulayih had been identified at the central morgue in the capital. Gunmen kidnapped him from his home on the outskirts of Baghdad, the latest in a string of attacks on sports figures.

Hussein al-Amidi said Fulayih was kidnapped three days after he returned with the bicycling team from the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.

"We lost another one. He is not a politician and has no link with any party," al-Amidi said.
