PARIS, May 12 - Laure Manaudou of France broke the 400 metres freestyle world record when she clocked four minutes 3.03 seconds at the national championships on Friday.

She bettered the previous mark set by American Janet Evans in Seoul in September 1988 by 0.82 seconds.
