The satchel, as well as her red skirt, was particularly designed for people serving at the IAAF World Junior Championships. Tong bravely asked Beijing Major Liu Qi to leave a message for World Junior and upcoming Olympic volunteers. Liu wrote down ¡°the smiles of the volunteers are the best calling card for Beijing¡± , which has now become the slogan for the Beijing Olympic volunteer recruitment program. [chinadaily.com.cn]
There will be 100,000 directly volunteering in the two Games but more people are needed to help with the city's transportation, environment, security, commerce and tourism, organizers said after the launching ceremony of recruitment of volunteers for the Beijing Olympic Games as well as the Paralympics Games.

"We estimate that hundreds of thousands of volunteers will serve the city during the Games. They can volunteer in fields like transportation, environment, security, commerce and tourism," one of the Olympics organizers Liu Jian said.

The organizers are going to recruit 100,000 volunteers for the two Games with the majority of them from Beijing-based universities. They also plan to bring in a certain number of volunteers from other parts of China including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan as overseas Chinese, students studying abroad and foreigners can be eligible too.
