Greatwall wine selected as Games'supplier

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) today announced COFCO Wines & Spirits (GREATWALL WINE) to be selected as the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Wine Exclusive Supplier at a joint press conference held in Beijing.

As an exclusive supplier, COFCO Wines & Spirits (GREATWALL WINE) will provide funds, wine products and related services to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. COFCO Wines & Spirits (GREATWALL WINE) may use the Olympic marks and other related rights to develop various Olympic-themed activities.

The Marketing Director of BOCOG Mrs. Yuan Bin addressed the audience, saying that GREATWALL WINE is one of the leading Chinese wine brands and enjoys high perceived quality. Nowadays, the Olympic Games is more than a sports event. It has grown to be a grand celebration across races, cultures and traditions. By participating in the marketing plan of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, COFCO Wines & Spirits (GREATWALL WINE) will showcase the glamour and taste of Chinese wine to the whole world.

She hoped that GREATWALL WINE would take advantage of the unique Olympic marketing platform to enhance its brand value, promote efficiency, and achieve further development.

"The major task of COFCO Wines and Spirits' (GREATWALL WINE) association with the Beijing Olympic Games is to ensure China's position in the world's wine culture. Through its Olympic sponsorship and especially BOCOG's concept of 'People's Olympics,' COFCO Wines & Spirits (GREATWALL WINE) will earn the world's recognition of Chinese culture as well as the Chinese wine industry, according to Mr. Qu Zhe, the General Manager of COFCO Wines & Spirits.

Mr. Ning Gaoning, the CEO of COFCO Group, affirmed that we fully understand the Olympic Spirit of "Faster, Higher and Stronger." It is a great honor for COFCO Wines & Spirits (GREATWALL WINE) to become the Wine Exclusive Supplier of the 2008 Olympic Games.

Various guests with Olympic backgrounds joined this event including Ms. Gao Min and Ms. Mo Huilan. Mr. He Zhenliang, the Honorary President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, IOC Member, President of the International Olympic Committee Mission for Culture and Olympic Education, and advisor to and Executive Member of BOCOG, sent a congratulatory message to the press conference.

GREATWALL Wine is the flagship brand under COFCO Wines and Spirits. In the past 20+ years, GREATWALL Wine has been exported to over 20 counties and regions including France, Germany, UK and the USA. In addition, several sub-brands under GREATWALL Wine have won a number of prizes at international wine competitions, which also helped to earn brand preference and reputation among consumers.

Since the Beijing 2008 Olympic Marketing Plan was launched on September 1, 2003, 11 enterprises namely Bank of China, China Network, Sinopec, CNPC, China Mobile, Volkswagen (China), adidas, Johnson & Johnson, Air China, PICC P&C and State Grid, have been selected as Beijing 2008 Partners.

The Nine Beijing 2008 Sponsors designated to date are UPS, Haier, Budweiser, SOHU, Yili, Tsingtao Beer, Yanjing Beer, BHP Billiton and Heng Yuan Xiang.

The six Beijing 2008 Exclusive Suppliers announced to date are COFCO Wines & Spirits (GREATWALL WINE), Mengna, Beifa, Vantage, YADU, Effem Foods (Beijing), and Qianxihe. And the one Beijing 2008 Supplier selected so far is Crystal CG.

The 11 IOC Worldwide Olympic Partners Coco-Cola, Atos Origin, General Electric, Kodak, Lenovo, Manulife, McDonald's, Omega, Panasonic, Samsung and Visa, will also provide financial, product, technical and service support for the staging and operation of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
